Week 51: @plutik (Petr)

BO_ezv1CUAA3p8p

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Hi, i am Petr. I am 24 years old and currently studying Maritime Technologies in Bremerhaven (better described as engineering stuff with open waters).
In the free time i am a member of the german lifeguard association (or DLRG), playing classical guitar, politically active and visit some concerts =)

What’s your Twitter account?

You can find me as @plutik.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

No, i am from Sankt-Petersburg and moved very early to Bremen since a lot of the international shipping companies prefer this location. I love both of the city’s and their maritime connections. Both are unique in their own ways, and have a lot to offer.

But i spent at least half of my life here, and its for sure: big port-citys are a nice place to stay, but Bremen is a great place to live =)

What do you like most of Bremen?

The size, the location, the weather, the river, the open-minded people, the richness of public culture and educational possibilities…
…but to go anywhere only by bike is just awesome.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

To your surprise, it’s not the “Viertel”. It’s the Weser.
There are a lot of nice, quite and hidden places around this river. Go running around the “Weserdeich” in the misty morning, jump into the “Werdersee” on hot middays, chill out at “Werftinsel” after a shopping trip, grab a beer at the “Schlachte” in the night. Or hoist the sails and take a boat to Bremerhaven!

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

1. Visit a concert at the Lagerhaus, Schlachthof or Römer.
2. Go surfing at the northsea directly after an early lecture and a coffee at the StuCa.
3. Grab a drink at the “Furchtbar”
4. Run along the Ochtum river or the Weser in search of #ingress portals or new locations.
5. Or just stay near home in Grolland and annoy anyone around me with my guitar.

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Hi, my name is Bianca, I’m an English teacher, mainly adult teaching, VHS and so, and a portrait painter. I found my homebase in Bremen-Findorff and couldn’t be happier here. The roof terrace helps, too.

What’s your Twitter account?

I am @biancaschroeter. I have an impressive count of what, 15 tweets? Am a total newbee and immensely enjoying it.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

I was raised down south, close to Aschaffenburg and grew up with Germans and Americans. Spent some time in the States, France, Cologne, Ruhr area and finally ended up here in the beautiful north. Dabbled in history and American Studies at university, became a professional tattooer, portrait painter, city guide and finally English teacher. I mainly teach at the Bremen Volkshochschule – great place, go and check us out!

What do you like most of Bremen?

First time I visited Bremen I was so surprised how lively and colorful this little city is. Everybody seems to know everybody and people are remarkably tolerant and open towards strangers. Once you get used to translating “Och, nech” into the longer sentences of other German regions the people here are most elaborate. Bremen has been kind to me.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

  • Findorff, the market, Hemmstrasse, Torfkanal, Bürgerpark
  • Sure, The Viertel and Osterdeich
  • The “Wallanlagen” with those remarkable, beautiful old trees in the middle of the city

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  1. Check out nice aerial view across Bremen from the roof terrace of the Bamberger building, Faulenstrasse; it’s on the 10th floor and for free
  2. Little round of drinks starting at Bermudadreieck, maybe dabble a bit at having a “Krabbeldiewandnuff” at Eisen and maybe finish off with some dancing at Tower
  3. Saturday morning at Findorff market, have the second coffee of the day, try a “Fischbroetchen” for first breakfast, buy cheese and olives, maybe enjoy a bit of Turkish pastry, get flowers and/or herbs and take bike back home – after talking to everybody you know.
  4. Scaring tourists in the evening when everything is quiet by dropping a coin in the “Bremer Loch” close to the town hall.
  5. Teerhof, gotta get your modern art fix somewhere; beautiful building, too.

What’s your Twitter account?

One or twice a year I write a blog post on telefreizeit.de.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

I was born and raised in Lower Saxony, spent some of my work life in Saxony, but went back to the region I like most. Now I live in Achim, the town where the Bremen Town Musician possibly stayed happily ever after and where Claas Störtebeker presumably had on of his hiding places.

What do you like most of Bremen?

It’s like Hamburg for beginners. Just joking. I just love the flair of the little big city.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

Our Garden.

Week 40: @melyeste (Melissa)

Image

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?
My name is Melissa, I am italian and I am 32 years old. I live in Bremen with my husband since September 2011. We moved here for work reasons. I have a PhD in Bioengineering and I work as a Post-Doc in Computational Neuroscience at Jacobs University and Hamburg-Eppendorf University. I love travelling, visiting new cities and new places; it gives me the opportunity to speak different languages. I speak Italian, English, French and ein bisschen Deutsch :), I am learning it. I am a tv series addicted, especially the american ones like Sex and the City, The Big Bang Theory, New Girl and Lost. I could define myself a sporty person and I definitly love dancing; I started Zumba here in Bremen and I am totally addicted to it. I suffer a lot the cold and I always feel better when the weather is sunny and I can go out with my husband and our mini Yorkshire! I love good food and I enjoy a lot trying new restaurants, even if, in the end, Pizza always wins!!

What’s your Twitter account?
My twitter account is @melyeste.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?
I am from Rimini, Italy. It is a beach city and that’s why I am totally in love with the sea and the summer weather :). I miss a lot my city and my family and everytime we have the possibility we go back to Italy to enjoy the sea view because, I have to say, travelling is super, but home is always home! I know, this is a very italian style to see things and in this sense I am definitly italian!

What do you like most of Bremen?
When I moved to Germany I was scared to end up in a small city, with few people and nothing to do. Instead I was so glad when I first saw Bremen because it is a quite big city (compared to many italian ones) and it is always full of people around and of very nice restaurants and locals. During the winter time is wonderful, with the lights and the markets and the smell of Xmas everywhere.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?
My favourite place in Bremen is Viertel, especially during the day and in the spring time, because it is full of people and life and you can take a walk around the area and directly go along the Weser or stop in a nice café and enjoy a cake or an icecream.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  1. Sunday brunch in Rotkäppchen
  2. A walk around the cute area of Schnoor
  3. Happy hour Mojito in Pio Tapas Bar
  4. Super Cool (New York style) dinner in Chilli Club
  5. A walk along the Weser, from Viertel to Schlachte
