Week 40: @melyeste (Melissa)

Image

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?
My name is Melissa, I am italian and I am 32 years old. I live in Bremen with my husband since September 2011. We moved here for work reasons. I have a PhD in Bioengineering and I work as a Post-Doc in Computational Neuroscience at Jacobs University and Hamburg-Eppendorf University. I love travelling, visiting new cities and new places; it gives me the opportunity to speak different languages. I speak Italian, English, French and ein bisschen Deutsch :), I am learning it. I am a tv series addicted, especially the american ones like Sex and the City, The Big Bang Theory, New Girl and Lost. I could define myself a sporty person and I definitly love dancing; I started Zumba here in Bremen and I am totally addicted to it. I suffer a lot the cold and I always feel better when the weather is sunny and I can go out with my husband and our mini Yorkshire! I love good food and I enjoy a lot trying new restaurants, even if, in the end, Pizza always wins!!

What’s your Twitter account?
My twitter account is @melyeste.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?
I am from Rimini, Italy. It is a beach city and that’s why I am totally in love with the sea and the summer weather :). I miss a lot my city and my family and everytime we have the possibility we go back to Italy to enjoy the sea view because, I have to say, travelling is super, but home is always home! I know, this is a very italian style to see things and in this sense I am definitly italian!

What do you like most of Bremen?
When I moved to Germany I was scared to end up in a small city, with few people and nothing to do. Instead I was so glad when I first saw Bremen because it is a quite big city (compared to many italian ones) and it is always full of people around and of very nice restaurants and locals. During the winter time is wonderful, with the lights and the markets and the smell of Xmas everywhere.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?
My favourite place in Bremen is Viertel, especially during the day and in the spring time, because it is full of people and life and you can take a walk around the area and directly go along the Weser or stop in a nice café and enjoy a cake or an icecream.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  1. Sunday brunch in Rotkäppchen
  2. A walk around the cute area of Schnoor
  3. Happy hour Mojito in Pio Tapas Bar
  4. Super Cool (New York style) dinner in Chilli Club
  5. A walk along the Weser, from Viertel to Schlachte

Week 38: @loussah (Louisa)

@loussah/Louisa

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Hey! My name is Louisa. I’m 28 and I’m a researcher and consultant at the Institute for Information Management Bremen where I’m involved in various projects dealing with information and media in education. In my free time I like to travel, take photos, spend time with friends… and occasionally waste an evening on watching new episodes of my favorite US series.

What’s your Twitter account?

@loussah – a nick name my friends gave me.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

Originally, I’m from the Hamelin area which is known for the tale of the Pied Piper. I moved to Bremen in 2004 to study Digital Media at the University of Bremen. After finishing my Master’s degree in Media Culture I was lucky to be offered a job here as well, because I kind of fell in love with Bremen.

What do you like most of Bremen?

I like how casual people are. Contrary to the belief that northern Germans are somewhat inapproachable, all you need is a cheerful “Moin” and that’s your conversation starter. Also, I love the small town feel with the big city cultural life, here.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

Osterdeich during summer. Great place to hang out with friends after work and on weekends;  even better during Breminale.

Bremen town musicians

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

We are the Bremen town Musicians – world famous symbols of the City of Bremen. We are working as Bremen ambassadors. That’s what we are doing and if you don’t know us we have done a bad job so far 🙂

What’s your Twitter account?

Well, actually we haven’t been on twitter before but you might want to follow @BremenErleben for the hottest information on Bremen.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

We are all coming from different farms in Germany. Our masters wanted to kill us therefore we decided to form a band and go to Bremen to become town musicians. On our way we met some robbers in the forest. That was quite a funny incidence. Some people say we didn’t make it to Bremen but as you can see that’s not true. There are a lot of evidences of our existence in Bremen.
Well, one version of our story you can finde in the famous fairytale by the brothers Grimm.

What do you like most about Bremen?

The people of Bremen are so nice and friendly. It’s such a pleasure to be here and meet them all the day. And different to our former masters they do love us. They even build us several statues. We love to stroll around the city and meet all this different kind of statues.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

What shall we answer on this question? The market place of course. Next to the beautiful town hall you’ll find the most beautiful of all statues representing us. Come and have a look.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  1. Visit our statue at the market place.
  2. Visit us in real life a the little zoo in Bürgerpark.
