Week 27: @niels_bremen (Niels)

niels_bremen

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Moin! My name is Niels and I´m 29 years old. I live in the Neustadt, not far from the Neustadts-Anlagen where I sometimes spent my summer evenings playing KUBB with some friends. I married last october and currently write my dissertation at the University of Bremen.

What’s your Twitter account?

@Niels_Bremen

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

I´m originally from Hessen, but I came here to live with my girlfriend (who´s my wife now). Hands down, it´s the best decision I´ve ever made.

What do you like most of Bremen?

All the rumors about northern people were false, they´ve warm hearts. I love their (sometimes pretty dry) humor and everything that´s “Bremisch”.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?
I love our river. I even participated on the Badeinsel-Regatta to finally get a bath there 😉

Week 26: @m1cha (Micha)

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?m1cha

Hello! I’m Micha. I’m 30 years old, I live in the Neustadt, and I work as a software developer for a small company in Hamburg. Whenever I’m there I spend most of the time talking about how much nicer Bremen is 😉

What’s your Twitter account?

@m1cha

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

I grew up in East Frisia, about two hours by train from Bremen. My first connection to Bremen was through the radio. We didn’t have a TV, and there were only few radio channels, but Radio Bremen was always a bit different and more interesting. As a child I listened to the childrens programmes on Bremen 2, later I listened to Bremen Vier a lot. Well, and then I got to like the city too, and after finishing school, I moved to Bremen – first to do my civilian service, then to study Computer Science at the university.

What do you like most of Bremen?

Bremen has just the right size – all the infrastructure you need, but without being so busy and anonymous like a really big city. You can get almost everywhere by bike, and it’s just a nice place to live.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

Hard to say – I’d say it’s the Werdersee, nice for swimming in the summer, sometimes ice-skating in the winter, and it’s a green area in the middle of the city, and just around the corner from where I live.
Or maybe the peaks of Bremen Switzerland – you have to be a trained alpinist to make it up to the 32.5 metre summit 😉

Week 25: @rowe316 (Rob)

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?     DSC_0890

Hi! I’m Rob and I am a student at the University of Bremen. When I am not studying or at a lecture, I enjoy literature, (quality) TV and movies. There also could be the possibility that I follow up on politics (which is only logical because I study politic science).I work  two days a week at a hospital.

What’s your Twitter account?

 follow me @rowe316

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

Bremen was always a part of my life. My father is born an raised here, but I grew up 2 hours from here in Uelzen. When I was little I was every year at leat a few week in Bremen with my grandparents. I permanently moved here 2011 to study at the University.

What do you like most of Bremen?

Oh, there is a lot. I really enjoy the small-town-feeling here. You always meet someone you know when you are at the city center or at the “Viertel”.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

Well, there is the “Bürgerpark” which is really awesome. If you need to have a quite moment you can take a walk there.

I do also like the “Viertel”. It is the complete opposite, a lot of people and many awesome places to eat or/and drink.

Week 24: @UniBremen (Jacqueline)

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?Jacqueline

Hey! My name is Jacqueline and I’m a social media manager and (for now) a student at the University of Bremen. My passion is film & literature, and I am about to graduate in ‘Transnational Literary Studies’ with a focus on film studies.

What’s your Twitter account?

I usually tweet for @UniBremen.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

It’s been five years now – I came here in 2007 to study English and Linguistics, then decided to stay for my Master’s as well. In 2010, I started the Facebook page for the University of Bremen, with Twitter following the year after. Just in time for my graduation, I got a job as the social media manager for the University’s press office. So now I tweet and post (among many other things) for a living!

What do you like most of Bremen?

Fell in love with the city because it is like a microcosm – you can find everything, but you can’t get lost here. It’s like living in a small town with the benefits of a big city.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

I know, I know, you hear it very often, but of course it is – the ‘Viertel‘. I have also lived in Walle and Horn-Lehe, nice places as well.
Since so many people name the Viertel as their favorite, what’s so special about it anymore, you may ask? Well, to me it is that you can make the Viertel yours. There are so many things to discover that there’s something for every taste, no matter if you like to party, are a book worm, love art, or just want to socialize and have a drink.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

1. Go to Viertel to grab a bite to eat

2. Check out book stores

3. Take a stroll through the Schnoor (go look for the smallest roof gutter you’ve ever seen)

4. Sit at the Weser, but I guess that what everyone will name as one of the top 5 things to do …

5. Rent a movie, or watch one at the Schauburg
