Week 14: @Blogland_Bremen (Sandra)

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Hi there in front of the computer! Who is Sandra? I´m a 32 year old public relations manager. After 4 years working as press officer for Bremer Bäder and the local agency for climate protection I´m now self-employed. I´m addicted to social media, especially to blogging. I´ve got two blogs – one about public relations (pressesprecheralltag.de) and a private one (wortkonfetti.de).

What’s your Twitter account?

@Blogland_Bremen

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

Originally I´m from Peine, a city between Hannover and Braunschweig (so I´m used to the weather in the north). Before moving to Bremen in 2007, I studied linguistics and history in Heidelberg, stayed for half a year in Bologna and worked in Berlin. All the time I was addicted to communications and media. Because of this I loved my student job a lot: I was part of studio from SWR3, a popular radiostation in Baden-Württemberg, similar to Bremen Vier.

What do you like most about Bremen?

I found my fiancé here – lucky me!

Generally: It´s big enough to get an “urban feeling” and to have everything you need, but at the same time the center is compact and it´s easy to built up a private and/ or a professional network. Moreover I get along very well with the traditional local understatement (called “hanseatische Zurückhaltung”). Not least it´s comfortable to ride by bike most of my daily ways.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

Like Nicole said: the Bürgerpark. In any case, independently from weather, you can relax body and mind between awesome trees, lovely glades and intricate way. I take every opportunity to go jogging or reading there.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  • enjoying one of the perfect dinners from Küche 13
  • reading and drinking fresh juices in Café Heinrich
  • ride by bike through the Blockland and eat selfmade ice cream at Kaemena
  • relaxing in the sauna of Badehaus
  • visiting the Breminale

Week 13: @NicHaase (Nicole)

Nicole Haase

Curator in Week 13: @NicHaase

Who are you and what are you doing in Bremen?

Moin, my name is Nicole. I’m 37 and I have lived in Bremen for many years. I’m still working, shopping, celebrating and spending a lot of my spare time in Bremen, but three years ago a nice little home with a beautiful (not that) little garden made me move right outside the city. So now i’m living in the „Speckgürtel“ (“Speckgürtel” means commuter belt but i think i like the direct translation „bacon belt“ more).
My Job in the advertising agency artundweise allows me to visit the Europahafen every day and from my desk I can see and hear the water of the harbor.

Are you originally from Bremen? If not, what’s your story?

I was born in Berlin (and it is still a part of me – I love it). But when I was 10, my father was offered a nice Job at Radio Bremen (the local TV and Radio Station) and he couldn’t refuse it after he saw this lovely green town.

What do you like most about Bremen?

My father was right: Bremen is green. Not only the many parks and the meadows along it’s river the weser make it green. It’s also the many bike lanes and the high number of bicyclists that are showing Bremen’s green attitude.
And I love the weser. In fact I‘m loving the sea with the wind and the waves, but the weser is big enough and always reminds me that the sea isn‘t far.

What’s your favourite place in Bremen?

The Bürgerpark brings my favourite things together. It‘s green, there is water (the Emmasee, a lake with little waterways through the park) and you can have delicious cake.
And the rest of the family is happy to watch animals in the little zoo or visit the huge playground.

What’s your top 5 list of things to do in Bremen?

  • Take a trip with one of the ships on the weser
  • Spend some time in the Bürgerpark
  • Have fun on the Freimarkt (one of germanys oldest annual fairs)
  • Visit the lovely Schnoor district with it’s narrow alleys and tiny stores
  • Have an „All-you-can-eat“ dinner at Captain Sushi
